… or surprised by sellers packing idea
Intro
This time, I don’t need a funny intro meme as the packing of this particular Sam Coupé was hilarious 😀

The job
Ok, with Sam unpacked, I could start working on it, and the plan was to simply refurbish it. The usual tasks, such as dusting and cleaning, etc. It was generally in good shape, so it didn’t require a lot of work.
Here is how SAM looked at the beginning.

It kinda even worked, but I couldn’t boot anything from a floppy, so that required some work. More on that later.

Disassembly and fixes
The interior was rather nice and only required simple cleaning.

The floppy drive, though, needed a bit of work. It is an interesting drive as it comes with its own controller on a PCB, which is kinda unusual. Some of the capacitors leaked, so these had to be replaced.

It also became obvious why the drive was not working. The belt was worn out and had to be replaced.

The one for ZX Spectrum +3 (also Amstrad 6128) fits here perfectly.

Cleaning and retr0brighting
The rest, meaning the case and the keyboard, were cleaned and gently retr0brighted.

Assembly and testing
Finally, I was able to assemble the machine and run some tests.

Everything turned out to be working 😀 Another Sam Coupé fixed! Yay!

See you in the next post 😀
